When Memorial Day comes around, things start to feel a little more like summertime which means time for a perfect backyard bbq! We are able to be outside more, and here in the PNW, we try to take advantage of warm sunny days! Having an outdoor BBQ is one of the best ways to do that. Have friends over, let the kids play around, cook together, and try new things! Combine all of your favorite sunny day things!
How to have the perfect backyard bbq
I wanted to provide 5 elements to help your BBQs this memorial day! I have three yummy food choices, an iced tea bar, and a fun tip!
1 Have something you know the kids will love
I’m not sure if I know any kids that don’t love hot dogs. I know some people who like them with cheese or wrapped in bacon! They are so versatile! Or you can be like my kids and swap the bun for the dog! I always walk away and one kid ends up with two hot dog buns while the other is eating the hot dogs. Find the way YOUR kids like it best! Ball Park® Brand has great options for hot dogs at Walmart! I love that Ball Park® Hot Dog packs have a lot in them AND they are the length of the bun.
2 Make a veggie dish
One of my favorite things to do with veggies is to bake/broil them! For our BBQ we used fresh broccoli and rainbow carrots!
Rainbow carrots make veggies seem a little more fun for the kiddos too! For this recipe, I tossed the veggies in lemon juice and seasoned with a little bit of onion salt! That’s it! I threw it in the oven with the chicken the last 5 minutes and then on broil for a few more!
3 Bake the chicken with this yummy 3 ingredient BBQ recipe!
While you’re at Walmart grabbing your Ball Park® Hot Dogs, grab a package of Tyson® Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast in the meat aisle! In the kitchen, grab your three ingredients!
Slice up the chicken in small strips, find your favorite BBQ sauce, and panko breadcrumbs! After the chicken is prepared, dip it in the BBQ sauce, then in the breadcrumbs, put them in a dish and bake for 35 minutes at 400 degrees! To crisp them up, broil on high for the last 5 minutes! I love that these are also kid friendly when you cut them into strips that are easy for little hands to hold! Once plated, we topped the chicken off with a little more BBQ sauce!
4 Invite friends over early and cook together!
I love this, because this gets everyone involved! We love spending time cooking together in the kitchen and it’s even more fun, when you can have friends help out! Bond over the food from start to finish!
5 Have an Iced Tea Bar!
When it comes to brewing iced tea, we love using Lipton® iced tea!
The flavor of the tea is delicious and SO easy to make! We put out fresh berries and freeze-dried berries to flavor up our tea. You can have sugar, lemons, or honey at your iced tea bar! Lipton® iced tea bags are the perfect size for our BBQ!
