Does anyone else sneak veggies and other healthy food into their kid’s meals? A healthy smoothie is one of the best ways to do it!
Everyone wants their kids to eat healthy, right?! Even though I know my boys hate every veggie known to man, I still offer it at meals and hope that one day they will eat it. A mom can dream right? My boys are required to always try everything on their plate. If they don’t like it, they don’t have to eat it. But they do have to try!
Luckily, this works on occasion and they will go through phases where they actually eat ALL of the veggies on their plate.
Healthy smoothie to the rescue!
I love that a smoothie is something that they will eat (almost) no matter what. My oldest won’t eat it if it has ANY shade of the color green. He knows kale and spinach found their way in somehow. It doesn’t matter how cool a HULK smoothie sounds.
However, if I sneak in a few baby leaves, he tends not to notice.
That’s another reason I love chia and flax seed. Easy to sneak in something small but great!
Okay, so smoothies. I was sent a package of Stonyfield’s Yogurt Smoothie drinks and my boys LOVE them. They ask for them every morning at breakfast. I trust Stonyfield products and I know they are eating and drinking the best when it’s on the menu. So one day I thought, if they love these so much, I HAVE to find a way to make them even better and be sneaky once again!
I took the already amazing smoothie and added fresh carrots and bananas! I was worried about them finding out my little secret, but they didn’t! They tasted the yummy peach smoothie drink and had no idea. WIN.
- 1 container of Stonyfield Organic Whole Milk Peach Smoothie
- 1 Banana
- 1-2 whole fresh carrots
- Blend with powerful blender like VITAMIX
- Add ice and milk for a colder and creamier smoothie!
- Freeze into popsicle molds for more fun!
Blenders and Popsicles
This specific recipe might not have worked a few months ago, but VITAMIX sent me their new A2300 blender and made the difference.
I LOVE using raw fruits and veggies. They more untouched they are, the better they are for you. The cooking process always tends to suck out at least some of the nutritious value in things.
If you are using another blender, you might have to steam the carrots a bit before you blend. However, this Vitamix is powerful! I was shocked when I made baby food for my youngest and I did not need to cook the carrots AT ALL. It was the perfect consistency AND had all the amazing benefits of raw food. Plus, the timer on this thing allows me to blend consistently every time!
I think that’s what also make these boys like my smoothies more now! The consistency is SO smooth, no matter what fruit or veggie I add to it!
FREE TIP: If your child is still hesitant – FREEZE IT INTO A POPSICLE. Countless times, I have offered a smoothie to my oldest who declares he does NOT like it…only to find out he will eat the EXACT SAME smoothie in popsicle form. Another #momwin. You’re welcome.
