DIY costumes are a perfect way to save money this Halloween! Mac and I decided to dress up for Halloween this year with the boys! I was able to make all of our costumes almost completely with items from Deseret! It is so crazy that costumes from others stores usually range from $30-50 a piece. When you are trying to be a budget friendly family of FIVE, that just doesn’t work for us.
Here is just a little rundown of what we spent on our DIY costumes:
Josiah’s ASH costume: $8
My PIKACHU costume: $12
Nolan’s DANIEL TIGER costume: $8
Mac and TJ’s RATATOUILLE costumes: $5
We spent a total of $33 for ALL of our costumes! We combined it with a few things that we had from home and – voila – awesome DIY costumes that my boys have already fallen in love with!
If you are in Portland or any area with a Deseret store – I suggest you check there first for your family’s costumes! Even if you are not into DIY, they have all of their donated and gently used costumes out on the floor! Most people only wear their costumes once and you can find amazing ready-to-go costumes for such a great price!
Deseret Industries is a national non-profit thrift store that provides employment, sponsors refugees and offers vocational and professional training for its associates. The stores collect inventory from individual local donations, enabling associates to process and recycle that inventory to fit others’ needs. Plus, reusing is a great way to make sure stuff doesn’t just end up in the trash. So shop at Deseret and save the environment 😉
Costume List:
ASH costume
- Blue Jacket: I cut the sleeves off and sewed on a yellow karate belt that I found at Deseret to give it the blue and yellow look Ash has.
- Red or White hat: We found this red hat and I am going to sew white felt on the front. You can also glue it!
- Blue undershirt
- White button up: this would be better short sleeve, but we found long sleeve and rolled them up
Pikachu costume
- Bright yellow shirt
- Black or yellow tutu
Remy and Linguini Costumes
- Rat or mouse set: The one we found at Deseret came with a tail, ears, and a little bow tie
- A chefs hat
- A white jacket and pants: Luckily we had these at home because my older brother went to culinary school!
Daniel Tiger Costume
- A red jacket or sweater
- Tiger pants
- Red keds
- A tiger accessory set with ears and tail
Enjoy the pictures below of our DIY Halloween costumes!
What you might not notice – his left hand has evidence of bribery (candy)
He obviously has no problem taking pictures!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
